It is the very first book and describes how the Master Chief came to be who he is and what the Spartans are. It is a great read and definitely the first on the list. It's been been awhile since I listened to a really good Halo book. It had the right amount of action and intrigue. I liked how it filled me in on the Halo 3: ODST characters. My only gripe about it was it was too short. An essential addition to the Halo canon!
